It's about good food and people.
Food shared is the most nourishment you can get.
Real Kitchens. Real Food. Real Life.
I want to encourage young-ish adults who might have just realized they forgot to learn to cook.
There are a gazillion online how-to cooking videos that take place in gleaming, perfect kitchens. A thousand tiny, glass bowls are featured, holding endless pre-measured ingredients, for each selected recipe.
Queue the reality check… That’s not what our kitchens are like. That’s not what any REAL kitchen is like. Our kitchens are chaotic – children and pets underfoot; phone calls and texts; never enough time and always one ingredient missing.
And yet, we all know, homemade food is better, for our health and our wallets.
- Are you tired of processed frozen food and take-out?
- Do you need to change your diet because of health concerns?
- Do you need meal ideas for your community or family?
- Are you looking for ways to save money on food?
I want to show that making healthy, delicious food is possible in run-of-the-mill, kitchens, no matter how small, or how chaotic they are.
Welcome To My Kitchen.
I don’t spend much time making things look beautiful – and no time making them perfect. Community around a table is about a lot more than just the decor.
When you arrive at our home for dinner, the table will be filled with fresh tasty foods. And, there might be a homemade pie for dessert.
There will be background music. Twinkly lights plugged in – out on the porch in the summertime, or right there in the dining/living room in the winter – to cheer things up a bit.
When people arrive, wine is poured. Food is passed around the table. Conversation rises and falls, punctuated with good, hearty, belly laughs. Stories are told. Insights shared. Problems solved. Ideas wrestled. Plans made. Food is passed around again. A pact to continue sharing life together is unspoken.
Eventually, someone stands, the spell is broken, and the realization of whatever life responsibility is next beginning to creep in. Time to clean up, say goodnight, and look forward to leftovers for lunch the next day.
This is the nourishment I want to give… A sight for sore eyes, a satisfying meal, and the feeling of being accepted and understood.
There are no strict rules here. Just a sincere hope that you will enjoy the food you create, and will try to cook more often.
And, remember to invite others to your table… your family, friends, neighbors… because food shared is the most nourishment you can get.
